🌿 Learning to stay in moments of contentment without bracing for what might go wrong
Lately, I’ve been noticing something subtle.
There are moments, simple ones, where I feel… content.
Not euphoric.
Not over-the-top joyful.
Just quietly okay.
Satisfied.
Like after a walk with a friend, the breeze still moving through my body.
Or sitting at home in the evening, the dishes done, the day complete.
Or watching a movie, relaxed, not reaching for anything else.
And almost immediately…something in me tightens.
Is this real?
Am I forgetting something?
When is the other shoe going to drop?
It’s quiet, but it’s there.
I’ve spent a lot of my life in survival mode.
Managing. Anticipating. Holding things together.
Reading the room. Bracing for impact.
And when you’ve lived like that for a long time,
peace can feel unfamiliar.
Even unsafe.
The body doesn’t immediately trust it.
The nervous system stays alert.
The mind looks for what might go wrong.
Even in good moments… there’s a kind of waiting.
But here’s what I’m beginning to understand:
Contentment isn’t something to question.
It’s something to practice.
To notice.
To allow.
To stay with… just a little longer than feels natural.
Not forcing it.
Not trying to hold onto it.
Just not leaving it so quickly.
Because for so long, there was always something to fix.
And now, in these small, ordinary moments of enough…
part of me doesn’t quite know what to do.
But I’m learning.
I’m learning that satisfaction is not a setup.
It’s not the calm before something bad happens.
It’s a signal.
A quiet, grounded signal that says:
Right now, you’re okay.
And maybe that’s the shift.
Not chasing more.
Not bracing for less.
But softening into what’s already here.
Letting that be enough for this moment.
If you notice this in yourself, that quiet inability to fully trust the good, you’re not doing it wrong.
You’re unwinding something very old.
So today, I’m holding one gentle question:
Can I stay here… just a little longer?
🌿 A Small Practice
Notice one moment today that feels even slightly okay.
Not perfect. Not extraordinary.
Just… okay.
And instead of moving past it, fixing it, or questioning it;
pause.
Breathe.
Let yourself be there.
🌙 Walking This Path Together
If you’re wanting a place to explore this kind of gentle shift, to come back to yourself through reflection, ritual, and real life practice, you’re welcome inside Everyday Spirit Quest.
And I’m also creating something new right now…
a Sacred Reset, a soft, supportive way to help the nervous system, body, and spirit move out of survival mode and into something steadier…More soon.
You don’t have to rush your healing.
You don’t have to force your way into peace.
Sometimes the work is simply this:
To notice when something feels okay…
and stay.
Just a little longer.

Barb this really resonates with me.
I used to be good at taking the time to really enjoy when things are going well. I am finding that more recently I have to force myself to “relax” remember that I am alright.
As always, thank you for all you do and for giving us this safe space.
Thank you for this… I hear you. Sometimes we have to relearn how to relax into the good moments and trust them again.
I’m so glad you’re here 💜
